The video : http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6101573.html?tag=ne.vid shows David Maynor exploiting a security hole to access a Mac.
Firstly I shall warn that this hack ha sbeen done with a third party USB wifi card and not with the "standard" Airport card. But it's possible that it works with default hardware.
To get hacked you must connect to an "hazardous" network so the hacker may start working.
To avoid this this MacFixIt recommends to avoid connecting automaticaly to a public network. To do so, go in the system preferences → Network → Airport and select "By default, join : preferred networks". Therefore you'll delete unknown entries in the list. Be sure that in the options you check the box : "Ask before connecting to an open network".
Aftewards on your Mac, switch off AirPort and Bluetooth when you don't need them (in the system preferences you may choose to show the status in the menu bar). This will also save battery power on laptop computers.
For your airport station, you may read the news "Setup an Airport station".
